    5.5 magnitude earthquake hits Solomon Islands

    An earthquake of magnitude 5.5 was registered off the coast of the Solomon Islands. This was announced on July 9 by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC).

    It is noted that the epicenter was located 114 km northwest of the city of Gizo with a population of about 6.1 thousand people. The source of the seismic event lay at a depth of 35 km.

    There was no information about the victims and destruction.

    No tsunami threat has been announced.

    An earthquake of magnitude 5.6 hit off the coast of Taiwan the day before. The epicenter was located 87 km east of the city of Hengchun with a population of about 31.2 thousand people. The source of the seismic event lay at a depth of 4 km. There were no reports of casualties or damage.Share:
