Assessed the consequences of undermining the Crimean bridge

    Published on

If during the investigation the involvement of the Ukrainian special services in the undermining of the Crimean bridge is established, then retaliatory measures will follow. This is how the consequences of the emergency were assessed by Andrei Kortunov, Director General of the Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC), in an interview with Lenta.ru.

On the morning of October 8, it became known that a truck had been blown up on the Crimean bridge. The incident caused the partial collapse of two motor spans of the bridge and the fire of seven fuel tanks of the train.

“It is necessary to establish who can be responsible. If it is proved that these are Ukrainian special services, then military retaliatory measures are possible in order to demonstrate the unacceptability of such actions,” Kortunov believes.

The political scientist noted that now it is necessary to create conditions for the Crimeans tourists so that they have the opportunity to come and leave the peninsula.

“Of course, restoration work will take place. At the same time, alternative communication lines will be activated. In particular, ferry crossings will be involved. A large burden will now fall on maritime transport. Now we need to assess the extent of the damage in order to restore the bridge,” he concluded.

Traffic on the bridge was stopped at the time the material was released. There were no casualties, according to preliminary data. Preparations for restoration work have already begun, the Ministry of Transport has launched new logistics routes, and the Kerch regional crossing has also started working.
