    Beginning of naval competitions in Qingdao

    Sailors from the Chinese and Russian navies began participating in a combat skills competition in Qingdao, a port city in the province of Shandong, east China, Wednesday.

    Crew members of CNS Linyi, a Type 054A-class guided-missile frigate of the Navy’s North Sea Fleet of the People’s Liberation Army, and the Gromkiy, a Steregushchiy-class corvette of Russia‘s Pacific Fleet Primorskaya Flotilla, will participate in the Sea Cup competition, a competition between surface ships and part of the International Army Games 2022 , according to a press release from the PLA Navy.

    At the opening ceremony in Qingdao on Wednesday, Senior Captain Li Lie, commander of a Navy APL and chief organizer of the competition, said that the APL will establish a fair and transparent competitive environment and provide all necessary support. ire to the event to make it a platform for friendship and cooperation between the two armies.

    Captain 1st Rank Bagdasarov, deputy commander of the Primorskaya flotilla, said in the press release that the competition will allow both parties to learn from each other and deepen mutual understanding.

    It will also serve to strengthen the bilateral strategic partnership and facilitate joint efforts to deal with military threats at sea.

    The Sea Cup, which is due to end on Sunday, involves live fire, air defense maneuvers, search and rescue operations as well as counter-terrorism and anti-piracy deployments.

    The 2022 International Military Games are taking place from Saturday to August 27 in 12 countries. Nearly 280 teams from 37 countries will take part in 36 competitions, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement.

    In northwest China‘s Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, ground force personnel from nine teams from China, Russia, Belarus, Iran and Venezuela are participating in two competitions – the Suvorov Assault, a competition between infantry vehicle crews, and the Safe Route, a mine clearing competition for military engineer troops. The competitions started on Saturday in Korla, Xinjiang.

    The competitions will last for two weeks and a closing ceremony is scheduled for August 26.
