In Bosnia and Herzegovina, the results of the general elections held on the eve of the elections were announced on Monday. And although the nationally oriented parties of the three main peoples of the republic – Muslim Bosniaks, Serbs and Croats – retained their leading positions, many of their nationalist-minded leaders failed. With details – the correspondent of “Kommersant” in the Balkans Gennady Sysoev .

Attention to the general elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), which were already held in For the 14th time since the end of the bloody war there and the signing of the Dayton Peace Accords in 1995, this time it was increased. In recent years, Bosnia has experienced the most serious political crisis in the past 27 years, which has cast doubt on its very existence as a single state. The preliminary results of Sunday’s voting, released on Monday, show that there have been no cardinal shifts in the Bosnian political landscape, but trends for change have emerged. to be elected to the presidium of BiH, consisting of three representatives of the main Bosnian peoples and performing the functions of a collective president. Instead, the Muslim Bosniaks on the presidium will be represented by a lesser-known politician, Denis Bechirovich, who was a candidate from 11 parties. And although the Party of Democratic Actions remains the leader in the Muslim-Croat Federation – one of the two (along with the Republika Srpska) state entities in Bosnia, the preservation of leadership in it by Bakir Izetbegovic, according to many regional experts, is now in question.

The moderate politician managed in a stubborn struggle to get ahead of the protégé of the main party of the Bosnian Croats – the Croatian Democratic Commonwealth – Borjana Krishto. who until now was the president of the Republika Srpska. Being a close associate of the nationalist leader of the Bosnian Serbs Milorad Dodik, she won the fight for the “Serb seat” in the Presidium of BiH without any problems. , where on September 20 in the Kremlin he met with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Milorad Dodik outlined the key goal of the trip as follows: “To provide the Republika Srpska with a guarantee of energy stability.” This was supposed to help him become president of the republic again following the results of the October 2 elections. Moreover, at the very beginning of the talks, Vladimir Putin uttered the words so necessary for the guest: “You have elections. I want to wish you success, I hope that this will be the case, based on the results of the vote, the position of the patriotic forces, I hope, will be strengthened. Trivic of the Democratic Progress Party. Until the end of the vote count, the main presidential candidates were on a par, both declared victory. As a result, the CEC counted more votes for Milorad Dodik, his opponents announced their disagreement with this and demanded a re-vote. The fact that the longtime leader of the Bosnian Serbs this time did not manage to win confidently, despite the support from the Kremlin, was already regarded by many in Bosnia as a serious defeat for Milorad Dodik and the beginning of the decline of his political career.

During the entire election campaign, the media close to the Serbian authorities accused Milorad Dodik of betrayal, while his main opponent, Jelena Trivic, constantly spoke of supporting Belgrade’s course. And three days before the vote, Republika Srpska police detained two members of the leadership of the Serbian Progressive Party, Aleksandar Vučić, who, according to local media, were suspected of campaigning and buying votes in the interests of Jelena Trivic.
