Abuja, August 30 A building collapsed under construction in Kano City, northern Nigeria, on the 30th, and 8 people have been rescued. There may still be many people trapped in the rubble as there are shops operating on the first floor of the building.

An official from the National Emergency Management Agency of Nigeria confirmed to Xinhua News Agency that afternoon, a three-story building under construction in a market in Kano City suddenly collapsed, and rescuers rescued 8 people. An unknown number of people are still trapped and rescue efforts are underway.

Local media quoted eyewitnesses and reported that a store had already opened on the first floor of the building under construction. When the building collapsed, people were shopping in the store, and many people may have been trapped in the rubble.

Building collapse accidents in Nigeria occur from time to time, mostly caused by aging buildings and irregular construction or the use of substandard building materials.
