The fire in Istanbul’s Fatih district occurred due to a technical malfunction of the car. On Wednesday, November 16, the owner of the burned-out car told the newspaper Sozcu.
“I smelled diesel while I was driving. I stopped to withdraw money from an ATM. At this time, the car started to burn and the fire spread to neighboring cars,” the driver of the car said.
The fire that engulfed his car soon spread to other cars, damaging the building and ATM near the scene.
The newspaper notes that the police and firefighters did not find any signs of a terrorist attack or arson.
The incident in the center of Istanbul became known the day before, on November 15th. There were no reports of casualties or deaths as a result of the fire.
