Chancellor Scholz says Germany has been preparing to phase out gas from Russia since December 2021

Russia is no longer a reliable energy supplier,” German Chancellor Scholz said with excitement. Here are those on! Offended again… Germany: a) an unfriendly country, b) imposed sanctions against the entire Russian economy and its citizens, c) supplies Ukraine with lethal weapons against our Armed Forces,” wrote Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev in his Telegram channel.

A little earlier, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that Russia is violating its contact obligations for energy supplies, so it cannot be considered a reliable partner in this matter.

“Something that always took place even during the Cold War no longer works: Russia is no longer a reliable supplier of energy,” he said at a press conference in Berlin following negotiations between the leaders of the ruling parties in Germany.

Scholz stated that Germany is feeling the consequences of the situation in Ukraine. But Berlin will continue to help and support Kyiv.

The German politician is sure that Germany is experiencing difficulties because of Russia: “Our country is going to have a hard time.” But Scholz believes that the FRG will cope with the supply of energy in the coming winter and will “survive” it.

According to him, the German authorities began to prepare to stop the Nord Stream in December last year. “Since we started doing this very early, we are in a situation where we can deal with it,” Scholz answered the journalist’s question whether the German authorities took into account the missing supplies via Nord Stream.

Scholz recalled the existing underground storage facilities, which are 85% full.

However, he assumes that there will be no mass protests in Germany this spring and winter due to a sharp rise in electricity and gas prices.

“If some do not agree, <...> then we are talking about just some. Most citizens know that it is good to live in an economically powerful welfare state,” says Scholz.

He also mentioned measures agreed with the government to support the population of Germany.

“The rise in electricity prices will be stopped as quickly as possible. We have to make a lot of decisions, provide a lot of regulatory measures to make this happen,” said Scholz.

Earlier in Germany, some parties, in particular the Left “Alternative for Germany”, as well as trade union associations, called for demonstrations due to rising energy prices and inflation.

The Russian side has repeatedly pointed out that Europe itself is to blame for its troubles.

Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Alexander Novak suggested that the price of gas in Europe could rise even higher. “And this is not the limit, because we are still in the warm season, we still have winter ahead, and there are a lot of unpredictable things,” he said in an interview with the Moscow. Kremlin. Putin.”

According to him, “the collapse in the energy markets of Europe” is due to “short-sighted policy.”

Gas price in Europe at 18:30 Moscow time on September 4 – $ 2226 per thousand cubic meters. At the same time, the average gas price in Europe in June amounted to about $1,240 for the same volumes. The peak values were at the level of almost $3,900.

Novak also noted in an interview that Western countries are responsible for stopping Nord Stream. In particular, EU sanctions led to this.

“There is such a phrase – this is shifting from a sore head to a healthy one, now the whole problem lies on that side, because all the terms of the contract on repair, conditions for the transportation of this equipment were violated,” Novak emphasized.

The violation occurred due to sanctions from Canada, which previously did not allow the turbine for a gas pumping plant to be taken out of repair in Montreal to Russia. But after numerous requests from Berlin, Ottawa decided to send the unit to Germany anyway.

But now the turbine is stuck in Germany, since Gazprom does not have a complete package of documents that would allow transporting and repairing engines for Nord Stream. The remaining engines have been taken out of service, as maintenance work is expected to be performed by Siemens specialists.

Since August 31, Gazprom has stopped the operation of the gas pumping station in order to carry out maintenance work on the only gas pumping unit remaining in operation. Maintenance should be carried out by Siemens every 1000 hours, Gazprom noted.

Damage was found. “The oil leak detection act was also signed by representatives of Siemens,” Gazprom said. To solve the problems, Nord Stream must be suspended.

Siemens claimed that it was not engaged in the maintenance of Nord Stream, but could participate in the repair. According to a representative of Siemens Energy AG, “the Portovaya compressor station allegedly has enough additional turbines to operate the gas pipeline. the decision to suspend gas pumping to Europe via Nord Stream is “cynicism” and confirmation of “Russia’s unreliability as a supplier.”

» takes care of the security of supplies.

For many decades, Gazprom has earned its reputation as a reliable guarantor of energy security, a reliable supplier. And we are convinced that Gazprom has not taken a single step that would shake this reputation,” Dmitry Peskov, press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation, emphasized.

He expressed the opinion that “European grief -politicians”, refusing to repair the Nord Stream, are acting absurdly. It is they who, according to him, “are now forcing their citizens to die of strokes when they see electricity bills.”
