    Chinese medical contingent in Mali receives UN commendation

    BEIJING, Aug. 27 — Brigadier General Stephan J Andersson, Commander of Sector East of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA), recently awarded the Sector Commander’s Commendation to the Chinese 9th Medical Contingent peacekeepers in Mali to recognize his exceptional performance in protecting peace in Mali.

    The Area Commander’s Commendation is the highest honor given by the UN to contingents or individuals of UN peacekeeping forces from different countries to recognize their outstanding contributions to peacekeeping missions. peace. The members of the 9th Chinese medical peacekeeping contingent in Mali are mainly drawn from the General Hospital of the PLA Northern Theater Command. He is mainly responsible for medical care for nearly 6,000 peacekeepers and employees of MINUSMA’s Eastern Sector, air evacuation of the wounded and water quality testing. Since its deployment to the mission area in August last year, the contingent has overcome adverse conditions such as severe security situations and challenging environments and performed various medical support tasks assigned by MINUSMA with high standards. “The Chinese peacekeeping medical contingent is a highly trained and dedicated group that has carried out the peacekeeping mission with a strong sense of responsibility,” Commander Andersson said during the the awarding of the prize.
