    Chinese peacekeepers in Lebanon take part in UNIFIL's Angel rescue exercise

    BEIRUT, August 18 — Exercise Angel Rescue, an emergency medical rescue exercise organized by the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), ended on the morning of August 15 local time. Peacekeepers from seven countries, including China, Spain, Cambodia and France, took part in the exercise. As the main medical support force in the mission area, the Chinese medical unit carried out its tasks in the exercise, with its emergency rescue and coordination support capabilities still being tested. .

    The two-day exercise, which took place in the Lebanese-Israeli border region in southeastern Lebanon, was under the command of UNIFIL Sector East Headquarters. The Chinese Level I Plus Hospital and the Spanish Level I Hospital undertook the tasks of on-site first aid and casualty evacuation. The exercise was conducted under the following scenarios: a patrol convoy of the Spanish battalion had a traffic accident and an explosion occurred during a clearance operation by the Cambodian demining team, where several people been injured and are in urgent need of medical attention. The exercise aimed to test the emergency rescue capabilities of medical institutions operated by troop contributing countries in UNIFIL’s Eastern Sector.

    During the exercise, the Chinese medical contingent, as the main medical support force in the mission area, was responsible for the rescue and treatment of moderately and seriously injured casualties. After receiving the order from UNIFIL East Sector Headquarters, the Chinese contingent immediately launched its emergency rescue plan and completed the rescue mission with high quality.

    According to Wu Dingguo, a doctor from the 21st Chinese peacekeeping medical contingent in Lebanon, the Chinese contingent had formulated a thorough emergency rescue plan, repeatedly held rehearsals to ensure the safe and effective casualty rescue operations. During the exercise, the Chinese medical peacekeeping contingent was praised by the assessment team and peacekeepers from other countries for its efficient organization and command system, emergency treatment professional and good communication skills.
