BEIJING, Dec. 7 (Xinhua) — The Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee on Tuesday convened a meeting to analyze and study economic work in 2023 and make arrangements to improve the conduct and moral integrity of the Party, and the fight against corruption.
Xi Jinping, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, chaired the meeting.As for the economic work for next year, the meeting stressed the need to fully implement the guidance of the 20th CPC National Congress and make solid progress in advancing China‘s modernization. It was emphasized at the meeting that the country will pay close attention to ensuring stable growth, employment and prices; effectively prevent and defuse major risks, and strive to achieve an overall improvement in economic performance characterized by better quality and reasonable growth.A proactive fiscal policy and prudent monetary policy will be continuously deployed to pursue steady economic progress, the meeting noted.He added that policies in various fields will be better coordinated while responses to epidemics will be optimized to form synergy for high-quality development. For example, industrial policies should stimulate both development and security, while science and technology policies should focus on self-sufficiency and self-improvement, and social policies should ensure people’s livelihoods.Efforts will also be made to further increase domestic demand and t give full play to the fundamental role of consumption and the key role of investment.The meeting also stressed the need to strengthen the resilience of industrial chains and supply chains, boost openness to a high standard and to redouble efforts to attract and utilize foreign investment.The meeting pointed out that after a decade of efforts in exercising full and rigorous autonomy from the Party, a landslide victory has been won in the fight against corruption and success has been consolidated, but there is still a long way to go.The meeting called for relentlessly strengthening the political will to exercise full and rigorous autonomy from the Party and to ensure that the Party’s self-reform for the new era continues.With the full implementation of the guiding principles of the 20th CPC National Congress as the core task, efforts should be made to impose a cont strict political role in order to maintain the centralized and unified authority and leadership of the CPC Central Committee, the meeting said. of the conduct of the Party and the government, the meeting pledged to take strict measures against the practices of hedonism and extravagance and to severely punish those who continue to violate Party discipline and rules despite warnings and repeated bans. Noting that Party discipline must be effectively enforced, the meeting called for the incorporation of strict requirements throughout the process, from the development of Party rules to education on discipline of the Party and the monitoring of the application of discipline. The meeting underlined a tough and protracted battle against corruption. Emphasis should be placed on corruption that involves both political and economic elements, corruption in sectors with a high concentration of power, funds and resources, and corrupt lower-ranking officials, whose misconduct affects directly people’s lives, he noted. Prior to the meeting, Xi chaired a meeting of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee during which a briefing was given on the work of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection ( CCDI) of the PCC and the National Control and Preparation Commission for the second plenary session of the 20th CCDI.The meeting agreed that the session is scheduled for January 9-11 next year.
