Decathlon may be banned from selling stores one at a time

The government commission may suspend unit sales of French Decathlon stores, Viktor Yevtukhov, deputy head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, told Izvestia on the sidelines of the Russian-Chinese business forum.

Now the company sells stores separately in the regions: it was previously reported that in 2023 the company sold five outlets in the Russian Federation.

“I think that this process will have to be suspended. So that it does not turn out that the trading network is trying to circumvent the mandatory conditions for the sale of a business. That is, to avoid a transaction that takes into account the full value of assets, he noted. “So you can sell all the stores – each separately – and leave the country without giving your customers a 50% discount and without paying 10% of the amount to the treasury.”

Yevtukhov is sure that the company will have to make a clearer decision: either they stay or leave. Such “piece” transactions for the sale of property assets should be an exception and correspond to the logic of the economic activity of enterprises.

“Otherwise, they become like deals to cover the true goals of companies leaving the market, that is, to “sham” deals,” he noted. French move: Decathlon has found a buyer for part of its stores in Russia Can the retail chain reopen in the country in the future? The company noted that supply restrictions prevent it from continuing operations in the country.

In January 2023, it became known that the network began to look for buyers for its sites.

As Izvestia was previously told in the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the government commission for the control of foreign investment in the Russian Federation approved an application for a deal to sell several retailer stores. As a member of the board of directors, head of the department of capital markets and investments at IBC Real Estate, Mikael Kazaryan, specified at the time, Decathlon owns 26 objects with a total area of more than 150,000 sq. m. m – 25 hypermarkets and one warehouse.Share:
