Erdogan's party prepared 28 lawsuits against Kılıçdaroglu for 110 years in total

Former Turkish presidential candidate, leader of the opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu could be sentenced to 110 years in prison. According to Cumhuriyet TV, 28 lawsuits have been filed against the politician.

The total sentences for insulting President Tayyip Erdogan, threatening, slandering, inciting hatred and ethnic hatred, promoting terrorism (the PKK banned in Turkey) is 110 years.

Kılıçdaroğlu did not take part in the parliamentary elections, therefore he does not have parliamentary immunity. Immediately after Erdogan’s victory in the presidential election, members of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) proposed to merge the lawsuits against the opposition leader and, on their basis, initiate a criminal case against Kılıçdaroglu.close 100% Alina Dzhus/Gazeta.Ru

Most of the lawsuits were filed by Erdogan himself. Earlier, the Turkish president has already participated as a plaintiff in such cases many times, won and transferred the money received in court to charity, TASS reports.

According to Turkish political scientists, Kılıçdaroğlu is unlikely to be prosecuted. The reason for this is the parliamentary origin of the lawsuits and their political nature. In addition, the case against Kılıçdaroglu could lead to a serious political crisis in the country – his party was founded by Kemal Ataturk himself, this is the second largest political force in Turkey.

On June 2, the leadership of the Turkish opposition Republican People’s Party resigned in full force.

This happened at the first meeting after the elections. Kılıçdaroğlu did not resign.

At the same time, the results of the CHP in the last elections turned out to be quite modest – the presidential candidate lost, and the party itself received 169 seats in parliament, its allied “Good Party” – 43 seats.

On June 1, the Central Electoral Commission of Turkey summed up the final results of the second round of presidential elections.

Chairman of the Supreme Electoral Council of Turkey Ahmet Yener said that according to the final results of the second round of voting in the presidential elections, Recep Tayyip Erdogan won 52.18% of the votes or 27 million 834 thousand 589 ballots, and Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu – 47.82 % and 25 million 504 thousand 704 ballots).

Kılıçdaroğlu previously accused Erdogan of lying, and in 2017 the politician compared the Turkish President with dictators Saddam Hussein, Muammar Gaddafi and Nicolae Ceausescu. All of them were killed after their overthrow. Consideration of claims was previously suspended, since Kılıçdaroğlu had parliamentary immunity.

On May 23, Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu himself filed a lawsuit against Tayyip Erdoğan over accusations of demonstrating a fake video, in which Kılıçdaroğlu allegedly expresses support for the leaders of the PKK.

The amount of the claim is 1 million Turkish liras (more than $50,000). If he wins, Kılıçdaroğlu intends to transfer the money to the children of the military who died on duty.
