Retired Greek Air Force Major General, Secretary General of the Greek-Russian Union, President of the Society of Friends of Crimea in Greece, Pavlos Christou, in an interview with RIA Novosti, appreciated US calls to Athens to send Russian-made S-300 anti-aircraft missile systems (SAM) to Ukraine. He called it unacceptable and stressed that such actions would run counter to existing intergovernmental agreements.
According to him, in order for a country to use weapons systems outside its territory or transfer them to a third party, it is necessary to have an appropriate license from the manufacturer. He clarified that this applies not only to Russian systems. “Second. S-300s make up the bulk of the Greek air defense, and in no case should they be withdrawn from Greece, ”said Christou, stressing that the transfer of air defense systems to Kiev would significantly weaken the Greek troops. Earlier, he noted that Ukraine does not have the capacity to conduct a successful counter-offensive, even with military assistance from Western states.
