The position of some representatives of the European Union (EU), including Budapest, could harm the EU in the confrontation with Moscow. This opinion was expressed by the head of the Finnish Foreign Policy Institute, political scientist Mika Aaltola.

He recalled that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban pointed to the ineffectiveness and failure of the restrictions imposed by the European Union against Russia.

“According to some EU countries, the idea of imposing sanctions was a bad idea, because now Russia is doing well. Rivalry among the EU countries could become the weakest link in relations with Russia,” the expert wrote on Twitter.

respond to ways to overcome them.

Aaltola believes that Europe should influence third countries in order to increase the effectiveness of the measures introduced against Moscow.

Earlier, on August 13, it was reported that Hungary increased the volume of gas supplies from Russia in opposition to the sanctions.

Before that, on August 1, Orban said that Brussels is not the head of the republic. He pointed out that Budapest would continue to defend its own point of view when discussing various pan-European decisions.

Western countries and are suicide for the EU.

On July 31, the Daily Express newspaper warned of the threat of the biggest financial crisis in the history of the European Union due to anti-Russian sanctions. The newspaper described the continuation of the policy of maintaining restrictions against Moscow as the suicide of Europe.

Western countries began to tighten sanctions against Russia in response to a special operation to protect the civilian population of Donbass, which began on February 24. It began against the backdrop of the situation in the region that worsened in mid-February. Then the authorities of the DPR and LPR reported on the increased shelling by the Ukrainian troops, announced the evacuation of the civilian population in the Russian Federation and asked for recognition of independence. On February 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the relevant decrees.
