The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) announced that Russia‘s membership in the organization has been suspended. This was announced on the official page at Twitter.
This decision was made because the Russian Paralympic Committee (RPC) is currently unable to fulfill the necessary obligations to the IPC. It is specified that 64 members of the organization voted for the suspension of the activities of the RPC, 39 voted against, and another 16 delegates abstained.
On March 3, the IPC refused to allow Russian athletes to compete at the 2022 Games. Initially, domestic athletes were allowed to perform in a neutral status, but then the decision was changed. The head of the organization, Andrew Parsons, explained this by the position of other national committees, which opposed the participation of the Russian team in the Paralympics.
At the end of February, many international sports organizations stopped allowing Russians to participate in tournaments on the recommendation of the International Olympic Committee. After that, the Russian sports federations applied to the Court of Arbitration for Sport to resolve the disputed issues.
