On the night of May 19, Ukrainian nationalists opened fire on Donetsk. Izvestia correspondent Yevgeny Bykovsky visited the scene of the shelling and shared footage showing the devastating consequences of the attack.
“At half past two, a roar was heard and the smell became strong. Several arrivals were heard, I thought the air defense worked, ”shared a resident of Donetsk. Footage from the scene shows damaged parts of a multi-storey building, broken windows, and a destroyed playground. Also on the ground you can see the craters from the fallen shells. “The arrival is three meters from the store, it is not yet clear what type of projectile. The fragments are similar to 155 caliber, but more details will be known after the examination, ”said the military commander. He clarified that it was in this Moloko store that shells from the Grad MLRS had already arrived in the first week after the New Year. It is noted that Ukrainian militants continue to shell “on the same squares.”
The shelling of Donetsk became known earlier that day, on May 19th. According to Izvestia correspondent Yevgeny Bykovsky from the scene, the air defense system also went off in Donetsk.
On May 17, Izvestia published footage of the aftermath of the shelling of the Petrovsky district of Donetsk by the Ukrainian army. Local residents reported that the shelling of this area occurs frequently – almost every day.
The next day, May 18, the Minister of Health of the Donetsk People’s Republic Dmitry Gartsev said that a nurse had died during shelling in the Petrovsky district of Donetsk who helped the wounded. The woman was reportedly on her way to work when she saw people injured by the explosion. She began to provide first aid to the wounded, but at that moment another shell flew in.
The special operation to protect Donbass, which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was made against the background of the aggravation of the situation in the region due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
