On the Day of the Summer Resident, Gazeta recalls the favorite country residences of representatives of the Soviet government.
Before the start of mass construction of summer cottages in the USSR in the 1960s, for an ordinary Soviet person, owning a country house was an almost unattainable dream. At the same time, the political elite of the USSR, already from the 1920s, mastered abandoned noble estates and estates and built luxurious residences for themselves at the expense of the state.
Gardens and orchards were planted around them, entire households were set up. Near the buildings where the nomenklatura ranks and members of their families were housed, an army of servants lived, who daily monitored large farms, made sure that the conditions for food and accommodation were at the highest level. Ordinary citizens did not know about such luxuries.
The houses were surrounded by hectares of forest and hidden from prying eyes behind high fences. The newspapers did not write about the luxurious interiors of the residences and immodest feasts, so ordinary people were completely unaware of how and how much their leaders rested.
