    Marape re-elected as Papua New Guinea's prime minister

    Xinhua News Agency, Sydney, August 10 Port Moresby news: Papua New Guinea’s parliament elected the Prime Minister on the 9th, and the current Prime Minister James Marape was re-elected with a high vote.

    Papua New Guinea Parliament has 118 seats. According to Papua New Guinea’s media reports, Marape won the support of 97 members of parliament in the parliamentary vote that day. This means that he was successfully re-elected.

    Marape has gone to the Governor’s Palace to be sworn in, beginning his second term as Prime Minister.

    Marape was born in 1971 and was a member of the Hella Province in Central Papua New Guinea. In May 2019, the party led by then Prime Minister O’Neill lost its majority in parliament, O’Neill resigned, and the parliament then elected Marape as PNG’s prime minister.
