Moscow was sprinkled with ashes // Smog from the Ryazan fires reached the capital

    Published on

On Wednesday morning, residents of at least ten districts of Moscow in the south, southeast and northwest of the city complained about the persistent smell of burning, ash and smog. In social networks, they began to actively recall the peat fires of 2010, when the city was shrouded in smoke for several weeks. However, Rosleskhoz assured that the situation of twelve years ago would not happen again, but the smog in the capital is associated with fires in the Ryazan region, where the city authorities have already sent equipment to extinguish fires. WWF Russia noted that the wind could also bring smoke to Moscow from fires in the Vladimir region and Orekhovo-Zuevo near Moscow.

The appearance of a persistent smell of burning in Moscow has become one of the most popular topics in urban social networks . One of the residents of Maryino , in particular, complained about the smell of burning and smoke in the apartment, “in which it is impossible to stay,” despite the fact that “nothing is burning and the sun is shining” on the street. Another eyewitness in the area Konkovo saw from the window of her high-rise building “light smog” on the horizon, and also found ash on the windowsills. Smog and haze from the window of the apartment was also seen by a resident of the district Akademichesky . “It seems that either forests or peat bogs are burning in the east of the Moscow region,” she suggested. In Solntsevo , the smell of burning, according to eyewitnesses, was also perceptible when the wind rose.

So, users of the forum of the district Khoroshevo-Mnevniki complained about “the terrible fumes in the air”, comparing it with burning plastic. Similar complaints were heard on the air of the Moscow 24 TV channel and from residents of Krylatsky and Mozhaisk districts.

Recall that the problematic situation with smog in Moscow developed in the summer of 2010. Then, due to abnormal heat in 22 regions in the European part of Russia, 1.2 thousand houses burned down. In the Moscow Region, 20,000 hectares of forest were affected by fires. Moscow, in August of that year, was shrouded in dense smoke from peat fires, as a result of which many citizens experienced health problems. After that, the authorities adopted a program to irrigate 76,000 hectares of peatlands near Moscow.

The Moscow Department of Rospotrebnadzor reported on the strengthening of air control and the organization of additional measurements of the state of the atmosphere. The Metropolitan Department of Natural Resources reported that Mosecomonitoring will also conduct its measurements for the excess of harmful substances in the air. The main department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation for Moscow added that the situation with smoke was taken under “special control.”

“After the fires of 2010, a large-scale work was carried out to water the peatlands,” said Mr. Sovetnikov. The current smoke in Moscow in Rosleskhoz was associated with fires in the Ryazan region. With reference to the data of the Ministry of Emergency Situations , the mayor of the capital, Sergei Sobyanin, also reported about the same. The administration of the Ryazan region reported that there are now four fires in the region, including the largest on 500 hectares of forest. The city authorities have already sent 240 firefighters, as well as 78 pieces of equipment, including three special helicopters, to the region to fight fires. that the largest fire in the Ryazan region captures 2.6 thousand hectares of forest, but emphasizes that the wind could also bring smoke to Moscow from fires in the Vladimir region (360 hectares) and Orekhovo-Zuevo near Moscow (180 hectares).
