    New Zealand Chinese Language Week 2022 kicks off

    New Zealand Prime Minister Ardern delivered a video speech opening the event in Chinese. She said that there are currently more than 240,000 Chinese living in New Zealand, playing an important role in the multicultural construction of New Zealand. She encourages people to use Chinese Week to try to learn Chinese and get in touch with Chinese culture from a different perspective.

    Chinese Ambassador to New Zealand Wang Xiaolong said that the increasing popularity of Chinese in New Zealand society is a reflection of the increasingly close relationship between the two countries. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Over the past 50 years, the two sides have always adopted an open and inclusive attitude, appreciated and learned from each other, and promoted pragmatic cooperation for mutual benefit and win-win results.

    Wang Xiaolong said that eight years after its establishment, the New Zealand Chinese Language Week has grown into an iconic brand of multi-level and multi-faceted cultural exchanges between the two countries, laying a solid foundation for China-New Zealand friendship. Contribute to the growing comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.

    In the evening, New Zealand Speaker Adrian Rurafi, Minister of Diversity, Inclusion and Ethnic Communities Priyanka Radhakrishnan and Wang Xiaolong jointly served as excellent local Chinese lovers Awards. Lu Rafi expressed the hope that more New Zealand youths will learn Chinese, and he himself will try to introduce himself in Chinese at next year’s Chinese Week.

    New Zealand Chinese Language Week started in 2014 and is another language week held in New Zealand after Maori Language Week and Pacific Islands Language Week. During this year’s event, many New Zealand will hold Chinese Culture Day, Chinese Poetry Recitation, Hanfu Show, Chinese Folk Music Appreciation, Chinese Food Experience, Chinese Calligraphy Workshop and other activities to attract local people to participate.
