Patrushev said that Russia has no data on the fault of the West in the accident at Nord Stream

The Nord Stream gas pipeline has been sabotaged – and in light of this state of emergency, Washington is helping foreign partners strengthen the protection of critical infrastructure, said US President Joe Biden.

He urged not to believe the statements of the Russian authorities about what happened on the pipeline.

According to the head of the White House, Washington cannot yet say for sure what exactly happened to the pipeline. “We are working with allies to determine exactly what happened,” the US President said, adding that Washington has already begun to help its allies to strengthen the security of critical infrastructure.

His national security aide Jake Sullivan said that “more work needs to be done on the investigation before the US authorities can hold this case responsible.”

“I think, obviously, that it was a sabotage that occurred, we think, at a depth of approximately 70-80 meters <...> below the surface of the ocean. It requires a certain level of equipment. I don’t want to rush into making claims about how it happened and who exactly did it until we have a firm certainty, ”added Sullivan.

According to him , The United States does not believe that one of Washington’s partners in NATO can bear responsibility for the sabotage at Nord Stream.

“It is obvious to everyone who benefits from this”

Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin in his speech on September 30, he blamed the Anglo-Saxons for the situation.

“The Anglo-Saxons have few sanctions. They turned to sabotage, it’s unbelievable, but true, having organized explosions on the international gas pipelines of the Nord Stream, <...> they actually began to destroy the pan-European energy infrastructure, ”said the President of the Russian Federation.

“It is obvious to everyone who benefits from this. Whoever benefits, he did, of course, ”Putin stressed.

In turn, Nikolai Patrushev, Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, said that Russia does not yet have data on the involvement of Western intelligence services in explosions on gas pipelines.

“I won’t name it now, but they did it,” said the secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation. Earlier, he expressed the opinion that the United States is the main beneficiary of the failure of gas pipelines, primarily from an economic point of view.

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken commented on the words of the Russian President and stated that the West could not be involved in sabotage.

“We are in close contact with our partners in Europe, especially with Denmark and Sweden. We support the investigation of these pipeline attacks. And we’re working to determine what’s responsible, but I don’t want to get ahead of myself,” the head of the State Department said.

He also accused Moscow of spreading disinformation about the situation around Nord Stream and promised that the US would make public information about the causes of the state of emergency as soon as it appeared.

NATO also supported efforts to investigate incidents that led to gas leaks in pipelines.

According to Secretary General of the organization Jens Stoltenberg, the alliance is working to strengthen the security of critical Allied infrastructure.

“We are expanding intelligence sharing <...> and examining the information we have collected over the past months and weeks to find something related to attacks on pipelines,” he added.

What happened on the gas pipelines

September 27 Nord Stream AG reported “unprecedented destruction” that occurred on three strings of the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines, which were identified within a few hours. The first leak was found at Nord Stream 2 near the Danish island of Bornholm. Then two leaks were recorded at Nord Stream. Although both pipelines were not in use at the time of the accident, they contained hundreds of millions of cubic meters of process gas that entered the sea.

Danish authorities have banned aircraft and ships from approaching the site incidents closer than five nautical miles.

Seismologists from Sweden said that on September 26, they recorded two explosions that occurred on the routes of occurrence of the Nord Streams. The head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, called the incidents sabotage, pointing out that any “deliberate violation of the European energy infrastructure is unacceptable and will lead to the strongest response.”

According to Spiegel, the German security authorities consider that the pipes were damaged by massive explosive devices.

Both European countries and Russia consider sabotage to be the likely cause, but no one has yet claimed responsibility for the attack. Experts noted that inspection of gas pipelines could take weeks, and restoration – months or years. This makes it impossible to use them for gas supply to Europe this winter.
