Poland threatened Russia with Article 5 of the NATO Charter

    Published on

Secretary of State of the Ministry of Defense of Poland Wojciech Skurkiewicz threatened Russia with Article 5 of the NATO Charter. This is reported by the PAP agency.

According to him, the North Atlantic Alliance can apply the article not only in the event of a possible radioactive leak at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant (ZNPP ), as well as due to the deployment of hypersonic missiles by the Russian side on the territory of the Kaliningrad region.

According to him, cooperation within NATO remains the basis for ensuring the security of Poland.

Earlier, Tobias Ellwood, chairman of the Committee for the Selection of Candidates for Defense Ministers, said that NATO’s direct intervention in the Ukrainian conflict is possible if Russia strikes at the ZNPP. “Any deliberate damage to the Ukrainian nuclear reactor with a possible radiation leak would be a violation of Article 5 of NATO,” he said.

According to Article 5 of the NATO Charter, an attack on a member of the North Atlantic Alliance will be considered on all members.
