The ceremony of celebrating the Day of the Flag, Emblem and Anthem of the Republic of Belarus took place without the participation of Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko. The congratulations on his behalf were read on the air of SB TV by the Prime Minister of the Republic Roman Golovchenko.
The Nasha Niva publication claims that on the eve of the holiday, the presidential cortege spent about two hours near a special hospital near Minsk.
“There is nothing supernatural there, it’s not covid. The man just got sick. Despite the fact that the person fell ill, he considered it his duty to come to Moscow, and then in the evening of the same day he held events in Minsk. He probably needs some rest – that’s all, ”Konstantin Zatulin, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs, told the Rise Telegram channel.
Lukashenka has been missing public events for the fifth day in a row. The last time the politician was seen at a military parade and the laying of wreaths at the eternal flame in Moscow – May 9, on Victory Day. Of all the presidents who arrived in Moscow for the parade, he was the only one who did not walk from the podium to the memorial to the Unknown Soldier, but drove 300 meters in a security electric car, smiling.
At the unofficial breakfast of the leaders of the CIS countries in the Kremlin after the laying of flowers, Lukashenka was no longer there – the press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov explained this by leaving for the festive ceremonies in Belarus.
A few hours later, on May 9, Lukashenka laid a wreath at the monument on Victory Square in Minsk. However, the solemn speech instead of him was read by the Minister of Defense of Belarus Viktor Khrenin, and Lukashenka himself stood nearby.
According to the source of the Belarusian publication Nasha Niva, Lukashenka fell ill with the flu. An interlocutor close to the “Lukashenka protocol” told reporters that surrounded by the politician “the version about the virus is spreading”. He added that “several more people [close to Lukashenka] fell ill and fell off their feet.”
The interlocutor of the publication emphasized that if it is the flu, then without proper treatment, “bacterial complications may occur.”
The Moskovsky Komsomolets newspaper reports that since May 9, the Belarusian leader has sent his direct representatives to all significant events.
Officially, the authorities of the Republic of Belarus did not comment on the state of Alexander Lukashenko. According to unofficial reports from the press service of the President of the Republic of Belarus, he is “working with documents.” “They have such a job, they are obliged to speak like that. It may very well be that he really works with documents, ”Zatulin told Rise.
The Zerkalo.io online publication indicates that reports on Lukashenka’s state of health are extremely rare – over the past 10 years, Minsk has spoken on this topic only four times.
“To say that Lukashenka has a cold, is sick, needs treatment, is to show his weakness. And in such systems it is a destabilizing factor. Because the whole system of power is built on Lukashenka. And if he does not resist, then a struggle for power may begin, this system will begin to stagger. And in the highest echelons of power, everyone is well aware of this, so they prefer to hide and will hide as much as possible, ”said political analyst Alexander Fridman.
In 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Lukashenka spoke out against the introduction of quarantine and recalled that doctors recommend breathing more fresh air during SARS.
“We kill people in these apartments. Many problems are opening up that need to be worked on, rather than closing the border and driving people into their homes. We have always been taught, you remember: if you have SARS, flu, etc., you need to go outside, breathe fresh air, ventilate the room,” the Belarusian leader said.
According to Lukashenka, sitting in a confined space, people find themselves in the “atmosphere of viruses.” He also stressed that he does not understand the supporters of “isolation, closure, overlap.”
Lukashenka also recommended washing hands more often to prevent ARVI, observe the daily regimen, go to the bathhouse and drink vodka for prevention.
“I am a non-drinker, but recently I say jokingly that you should not only wash your hands with vodka, but, probably, 40-50 grams per day in terms of pure alcohol is to poison this virus. But not at work,” Lukashenka said.
