Clinical psychologist, writer, winner of the Golden Psyche award Mikhail Khors said that in order to quit smoking, one should first of all realize the fact of addiction.
In an interview with Russian.rt.com/Russia/news/1074605-psiholog-otkaz-kurenie”>RT on Thursday, November 17, the specialist said that when you realize addiction, it is easier to quit smoking, because a person he struggles not with himself, but with addiction, with an abstinence syndrome, in everyday life called withdrawal.
Khors noted that smokers experience the same withdrawal as drug addicts, only psychological. The psychologist pointed out that, on average, a person manages to quit smoking on the seventh try. He also urged not to reproach yourself if breakdowns occur. Anger at yourself will only increase the chances of the next relapse, notes the TV channel “360” .
The specialist spoke about the technique of conscious smoking, when a person sets himself the exact date when he will quit smoking, and until that moment he smokes in an unusual way for himself. For example, with the left hand instead of the right, alone, and not in the company, etc. The psychologist noted that during this period it is better to smoke with your eyes closed: this method allows you to get out of the habit, since it is easier to interrupt a conscious and controlled process.
He also advised replacing the word “smoking”, for example, to “inhale poisonous smoke.”
