Romania denies NATO plans to go to war with Russia

    Published on

North Atlantic Alliance (NATO) is not going to go to war with Russia. This was stated on September 24 by the President of Romania, Klaus Iohannis, who heads the delegation of his country at the session of the UN General Assembly in New York

“Romania, as a member of NATO, is ready for any scenario [of the development of events in Ukraine ]. However, we don’t need any scenario. The scenario we want is Russia’s withdrawal from Ukraine and peace talks,” Iohannis said, meeting with compatriot entrepreneurs in Silicon Valley, California.

The President warned citizens that Romanians should not panic and Romania is not going to go to war with Russia, however, steps towards de-escalation of the conflict should be both from NATO and from the Russian Federation.

Earlier on Saturday, Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó, who is also in New York at the UN General Assembly, said that at this stage of relations between Russia and NATO, the most important thing is to prevent tensions from escalating into open military confrontation, as this will lead to such consequences that neither side is needed. Szijjarto also noted that the crisis in Ukraine cannot be resolved without reaching an agreement between Russia and the United States, regardless of whether other countries are satisfied with such an outcome or not.

On September 22, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, at a meeting with the Secretary of State of the Vatican (head of government), Cardinal Pietro Parolin, said that the crisis in relations with the West is the result of a NATO “crusade” to destroy Russia. Now the Russian Federation is taking steps aimed at ensuring the independence and security of the state, noted in the Russian department.

with the West is quite real. According to him, “the Americans and their allies have gone to great lengths, supplying the regime in Kyiv with various weapons, including heavy and strike weapons.” All this, Nechaev noted, clearly demonstrates that a clash with the collective West is quite real. NATO will entail an exchange of nuclear strikes. The author of the text believes that this makes the United States be more careful with military support for Ukraine.

In mid-August, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said that the military activities of NATO member countries had taken the form of an absolutely anti-Russian orientation .

Since February 24, the Russian Federation has been conducting a special military operation to protect the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics. It was preceded by an aggravation of the situation in the region, an appeal by the leadership of the Donbass republics to the Russian Federation with a request for help, and the subsequent recognition by Russia of the independence of the DNR and LNR.
