Russians listed potentially dangerous online services

Sergey Kuzmenko, Senior Digital Product Testing Specialist at the Center for Digital Expertise of Roskachestvo, listed online services that could be dangerous to use. He told the Prime agency about them.

The greatest probability of being a victim of scammers exists when using online banking, the expert said. Despite the high reliability of the system, it is necessary to adhere to safety rules. “Scammers use social engineering methods in fraud schemes over the phone and in messages – SMS, email, instant messengers, and thus extract confidential data from gullible and naive citizens,” he warned.

No less cases of fraud occur in online payment for purchases, continued Kuzmenko. According to him, the site may turn out to be phishing, and then when you enter payment data, criminals will gain access to your funds. “In addition, if you are asked to transfer the amount to a private person’s card, this is also a risk. Later, at best, it will be very difficult to make a claim on the goods, and at worst, the seller will receive the money and disappear. No chairs, no money, as they say, ”the specialist noted.

The Roskachestvo expert gave recommendations on how to protect yourself from scammers. He advised installing up-to-date antivirus programs on the devices used, as well as making purchases only through trusted sites. “It is better not to use public Wi-Fi when making financial transactions online. Every 90 days, update the password on all important applications and sites,” Kuzmenko summed up.

Earlier, in4security experts warned about the emergence of fake DNS online store sites. It is noted that fraudulent sites do not have an SSL certificate.
