On Friday, the Odintsovo City Court sentenced ex-deputy director of the Federal Penitentiary Service Valery Maksimenko to nine years of strict regime, deprivation of the rank of lieutenant general and the Order of Friendship. The former chief logistics officer of the prison department, who was found guilty of abuse of power and bribery, must also compensate for the damage caused to the state in the amount of more than 330 million rubles. The Federal Penitentiary Service itself, despite being recognized as the injured party, did not file a claim, and it was filed by the Prosecutor General’s Office. As established by the investigation and the court, the convict contributed to the conclusion of a knowingly unenforceable contract for 3.6 billion rubles. and received a kickback in the form of services for this. The defense plans to appeal the court’s decision.
