    Seven dead in Iraqi mosque collapse

    Baghdad, August 22 The Iraqi Civil Defense Department issued a statement on the 22nd that the death toll in the collapse of a mosque in Karbala province in central Iraq on the afternoon of the 20th has risen to 7 people.

    Rescuers exhumed seven bodies, including four women and children, from the rubble, the statement said. The statement did not release the condition of the injured. Rescue efforts to search for survivors in the rubble are still ongoing.

    The mosque that collapsed is located near the holy Shiite city of Karbala in Karbala province. According to local media reports, the accident was caused by a landslide next to the mosque and boulders hitting the main building of the mosque.

    Iraqi Prime Minister Kadimi has instructed the Interior Minister to go to the scene of the accident to supervise rescue efforts.
