Solidarity // against force majeure circumstances

Dear friends, the unusually difficult year of 2022 is coming to an end, and in this last December column, we traditionally sum up the preliminary results of Rusfond’s work. Our estimates on New Year’s Eve are habitually inaccurate: the end result usually turns out to be tens of millions of rubles higher – in the very last days before January 1, donations are received more than ever. I would like to believe that this will be the case today. However, calculations show that fees-2022 will not exceed 1.49 billion rubles, while in 2021 they amounted to 1.563 billion rubles. And it is important to understand the reasons for the fall of 73 million rubles. The problem is extremely sensitive: up to 250 seriously ill children did not wait for our help this year. To begin with, let’s evaluate the role of force majeure.

Here is the alignment of sanction force majeure. Google has blocked its advertising platforms for Russian users, and now we have begun collecting donations on the RBC and Lenta.ru websites on the Yandex platform: the minus fees compared to 2021 amounted to 46 million rubles

Donations from bank cards in 2021 brought 621.4 million rubles. Today – 510 million. The reasons, as our experts believe, are related to the suspension of Visa and MasterCard cards, as well as the spring emigration of some of our readers. That is, Rusfond lost 111.4 million rubles? Not so: we actively promoted the Fast Payment System, and now fees using this system will amount to 80 million rubles. In other words, losses in this fundraising format will be reduced to 31.4 million rubles.

PayPal payment system last year provided fees of 17.6 million rubles. However, on March 5, she suspended work in the Russian Federation and blocked the accounts of Russians. We set up fundraising with the help of this system in one of the foreign countries, and in annual terms, the losses amounted to only 6.6 million rubles

That is if our experts’ assessment is correct and donations this year will amount to 1.49 billion rubles, then a minus of 73 million rubles formed force majeure sanctions?

This is both true and not true, friends. Yes, some of the companies, yesterday’s our benefactors, have curtailed production in Russia, another part is saving the business, and they are not in the mood for philanthropy. According to Development Director Lyudmila Fomina, at the beginning of the year these companies planned up to 102 million rubles for Rusfond. But here’s what is remarkable: Rusfond has fewer corporate donors, but their contributions have grown compared to 2021! Another detail: the number of companies and private philanthropists who prefer to “remain anonymous” has sharply increased.

This year, judging by the applications to Rusfond, the need for philanthropy to pay for children’s orthopedic and cardiac surgeries is decreasing. This means that the state financed the children’s health care branch more fully. A distinctive feature of 2022 is that there are more requests for help in paying for the rehabilitation treatment of children. The demand for rehabilitation is especially high at the Three Sisters center near Moscow.

From the latest news: on December 27, an agreement was signed on the entry of the National Register of Bone Marrow Donors (National RDKM) into the Federal Register maintained by the Federal Medical -biological agency of Russia. The document provides for the transfer of depersonalized data of 75,032 potential donors (37% of the Federal Register database) to the National RDKM. This is the main event for the National RDCM in the past year and one of the most important for Rusfond. This largest charitable project of ours in the last five years has become officially available to all oncohematological centers in Russia. World Bone Marrow Donor Association (WMDA, Netherlands). Today it has become the largest supplier of unrelated transplants in Russia: 75 from Russian donors and 21 from foreign ones. Plus, he exported four transplants abroad. The National RDCM found these donors at the request of the clinics, ensured the procurement and delivery of grafts to the transplant sites, and Rusfond paid for all deliveries.

This is, without a doubt, a success. In the next issues of Rusfond in Kommersant and on rusfond.ru, we will definitely talk about the components of this success, about the people and companies that co-financed the National RCMP, and about the problems of its growth. And now the cherry on the cake. The National RDKM is not only the largest local register in the country. Its donor base is also of the highest quality. This is a medical fact. At the international symposium, Dmitry Motorin, a hematologist at the V. A. Almazov National Medical Research Center, stated: “The time for searching for a donor from the registers is now three to six months. The optimal time frame is two months. Only Rusfond’s register so far allows for a full range of services within these timeframes – from an application to the issuance of a transplant” . In 2021, the V. A. Almazov Center performed seven transplants from our donors, in 2022 – already 24.

Happy New Year, dear friends! Thank you so much – and good luck! It will be very helpful for all of us!
