The member countries of the European Union (EU) approved the decision to provide Ukraine with additional macro-financial assistance in the amount of €5 billion as a matter of urgency, follows from the statement of the EU Council published on September 20.

“This €5bn macro-financial assistance will be provided to Ukraine in the form of long-term loans on highly concessional terms,” the statement says.

It is noted that this assistance represents the second stage of the implementation of the planned macro-financial assistance to Ukraine in the amount of up to €9 billion, announced by the EC on May 18 and approved at the end June.

Of these €9 billion, Ukraine has already received €1 billion. It was fully disbursed in two tranches in early August. Discussions on the remaining €3 billion are expected to take place in the foreseeable future.

“This decision should be followed quickly by a further decision implementing the third phase of the Union’s planned full macro-financial assistance of an additional amount of € 3 billion, as soon as the structure of this assistance is determined, ”the message says.

On September 15, the deputies of the European Parliament by a majority supported the allocation of a new part of macro-financial assistance to Ukraine in the amount of € 5 billion. 534 deputies spoke in support, 30 against.

On September 5, the European Commission signed an agreement with Ukraine on the allocation of grant assistance in the amount of €500 million. Financing is aimed at providing housing and education for Ukrainian refugees, as well as to support the agricultural sector of Ukraine.

On the same day it became known that the parties had signed five agreements on cooperation and financial support for Kyiv. According to the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal, an agreement was signed on Ukraine’s participation in the EU program “Digital Europe”, which implies assistance in the development of projects for the development of artificial intelligence, supercomputers, cybersecurity, etc.
