The monks of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra were not allowed to go to trial for their eviction from the monastery

The police do not allow the monks of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) to attend court hearings on a lawsuit against the reserve to evict the brethren from the monastery. The Union of Orthodox Journalists (UOJ) writes about this with reference to lawyer Nikita Chekman.

On July 20, the Economic Court of Kyiv will consider a claim from the monastery to the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra reserve with a demand to cancel the decision to evict the monks from the monastery. The monks filed applications to involve them in the case, but they are still not allowed into the premises. The monks and believers of the UOC who have gathered near the courtroom hold a prayer service. In his evening address on July 18, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky promised some solutions to the religious situation in the country soon. What will happen to the country after it ends? April 25, 2023 The Day of the Baptism of Rus’: the history and traditions of the holiday. Why did Saint Prince Vladimir decide to baptize Rus’? July 10, 2023 The reserve “Kiev-Pechersk Lavra” claims the property of the monastery of the same name on the grounds that it is owned by the state. However, the monks who are members of the UOC do not comply with the demand for eviction in the absence of a court decision. Earlier, the acting director of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra reserve, Maxim Ostapenko, lamented that the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra could have been captured in the spring of 2022 with the help of the National Guard. According to him, “then it was necessary, relatively speaking, to cordon off the territory by the National Guard and check all the premises, determine their legal and technical mode of use.”
