“How are you doing?” (“Kimitachi wa do ikiru ka?”) by Hayao Miyazaki

At the box office July 14

The long-awaited return of Hayao Miyazaki, the main storyteller of our time, seems to be really on the last bow. Nothing is known about the plot, except that the tape is inspired by Yoshino Genzaburo’s novel How Do You Do? (Miyazaki’s film, apparently, will not be a film adaptation).

    “Barbie” (“Barbie”) , Greta Gerwig

From July 21 at the box office

Greta Gerwig’s rom-com based on Mattel’s toys Barbie and Ken dolls. Starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling. What they will do on the screen is not entirely clear at the moment: so far the tape has only a teaser trailer quoting the opening scene from Stanley Kubrick’s A Space Odyssey. At the same time, Gerwig’s film has already managed to leave a cultural mark, although the release is still far away: in the summer of 2022, the publication of the first frames (as well as photographs of passers-by who caught the shooting) provoked the emergence of a full-fledged barbicore fashion trend.

    Oppenheimer Christopher Nolan

From July 21 at the box office

A biopic of the American physicist and creator of the nuclear the bombs of Robert Oppenheimer, for the filming of which Christopher Nolan seems to have detonated a real bomb (because after the destruction of an entire plane on camera, it can be difficult to stop; we only hope that the director does not take up the post-apocalyptic genre). Peaky Blinders and 28 Days Later star Cillian Murphy stars in the title role, along with Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr., Florence Pugh, Gary Oldman, Rami Malek, Kenneth Branagh and Josh Hartnett. The simultaneous release of “Oppenheimer” and “Barbie” was sung in advance in memes: it looks like Cinema Day in 2023 should be moved to July 21.

“The Exorcist” by David Gordon Green

С 13 October at the box office

After a dubious experience with the reanimation of the Halloween horror franchise, director David Gordon Green turned to another famous series, taking with it a proven approach: the new The Exorcist will also be a direct sequel to William Friedkin’s original The Exorcist, ignoring all other sequels (and, of course, will claim to be the start of a new trilogy). In the story, the father of a possessed child is desperately looking for someone with a similar experience. That person turns out to be the character of the first The Exorcist, Chris McNeil (reprised by Ellen Burstyn).

Joaquin Phoenix portrays an extremely anxious but good-looking man who never knew his father and is in a strained relationship with his overbearing mother. After her death, he embarks on a journey, but the process is complicated by supernatural threats. After the release of Solstice, Astaire threatened that his next project would be a four-hour “nightmare comedy”, which probably is.

    “Napoleon” (“Napoleon”), Ridley Scott

    In 2023 on Apple TV+

An epic historical drama about the rise of the French Emperor Napoleon I Bonaparte and his difficult relationship with Empress Josephine de Beauharnais. Starring Joaquin Phoenix and Vanessa Kirby. The screenplay was written by David Scarpa, who previously worked on Scott’s All the Money in the World.

    The Nightingale, Mélanie Laurent

In 2023 at the box office

A screen version of Christine Hannah’s bestseller “The Nightingale” about two sisters who are trying to survive during the Nazi occupation of France. The heroines should be played by the real sisters Dakota and Elle Fanning (formally, their third collaboration after the 2001 comedy-drama I Am Sam and the 2002 mini-series Kidnapped, but in fact the first). The director’s chair is assigned to Melanie Laurent. The production of the film, delayed due to the pandemic, has not yet begun, so the film may not be released in 2023.

“Flower Moon Killers ” (“Killers of the Flower Moon”) by Martin Scorsese
