The extension of the grain deal is possible if Moscow approves the proposals of UN Secretary General António Guterres, which are contained in his letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin. This was told by a diplomatic source in Turkey, writes TASS.
The expert called the condition for prolongation. He recalled that Russia has repeatedly stated that during the year the Istanbul agreements relating to it were not fulfilled. “This can happen if the proposals of Guterres are recognized as acceptable,” the specialist admitted. The source indicated that the Turkish Ministry of Defense and the Foreign Ministry are actively working to make the extension of the grain deal possible. The diplomat added that Putin and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan are likely to discuss this topic. As a result of the conversation, the situation will become completely clear, the source believes.Earlier, Erdogan said that Putin agreed to extend the grain deal, despite the failure to comply with Russian demands on the Black Sea initiative.
