    UN secretary-general calls for professional international troops to be sent to Haiti

    United Nations, October 9 United Nations Secretary-General Guterres on the 9th called on the international community to urgently consider sending a professional international force to Haiti to respond to the humanitarian crisis facing Haiti.

    United Nations Secretary-General Spokesperson Djarric said in a statement on the same day that Guterres remains gravely concerned about the situation in Haiti, which is facing a cholera outbreak while the country’s security situation has deteriorated sharply and paralyzed the country. Crucial cholera-prevention services, such as drinking water distribution, have come to a standstill as fuel delivery is blocked.
