People taken hostage should try to remember everything that is possible, not to attract too much attention, and also not to try to escape in the absence of a 100% guarantee of the success of the escape, said Lieutenant Colonel of the Reserve, a member of the Association of Veterans of the Alpha anti-terror group Andrey Popov. In an interview with Lenta.ru, Popov listed the rules of conduct in such a situation.
“The most important thing is not to attract the attention of terrorists with appeals, shouts, groans, requests. You need to carefully remember everything you see and hear, if, of course, there is such an opportunity. Pay special attention to the names, addresses of terrorists to each other, as well as slang words, accents, peculiarities of the speech of terrorists – all this will then help identify their personalities, ”explained the expert. » The specialist emphasized that it is difficult to formulate general recommendations for all such situations, since behavior strategies can be different and directly depend on the circumstances of captivity. However, as Popov explained, contact with the kidnappers should be kept to a minimum in order to avoid the development of Stockholm syndrome. “There are two points here: on the one hand, it is recommended to communicate with terrorists as little as possible, on the other hand, if being held hostage for more than 12 hours, then, willy-nilly, you will have to communicate with terrorists, at least on nutrition and physiological needs. If you can classify terrorists as relatively “sane”, then you can report existing diseases, as well as ask to release children, ”Popov specified. He also emphasized that one must be especially careful during the assault, as any abrupt action may be misinterpreted by law enforcement officers. “If there is an assault, then perhaps there will be distracting maneuvers, explosions. If you hear them, then you need to lie face down, but it is better to take the “embryo” position: lie on your side, curl up, cover your face with your hands. This position will allow you to protect yourself as much as possible from injuries that can happen during the assault, ”explained the interlocutor of Lenta.ru. Earlier, the governor of the Belgorod region, Vyacheslav Gladkov, spoke about the attack on a woman who suffered during the sabotage of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (APU) in the region. Gladkov clarified that the woman was actually in captivity and was bleeding, she did not even have the opportunity to drink.
