Without planes: how was the Victory parade in Moscow

    Published on

A parade was held on Red Square in Moscow in honor of the 78th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. Russian President Vladimir Putin greeted the veterans, shook hands with them, and then delivered a speech in which he also stated that he was proud of the participants in the military operation.

This year, the leaders of seven countries came to the ceremony: the presidents of Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, as well as the Prime Minister of Armenia.

More than 8,000 servicemen took part in the parade, including 530 participants in the military operation in Ukraine, and 125 pieces of weapons and military equipment. The T-34 tank was the first to pass through the Victory Parade. S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems and Yars missile systems also passed.

The parade was commanded by the Commander-in-Chief of the Ground Forces, General of the Army Oleg Salyukov, and received by Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu. The parade lasted 45 minutes. The traditional air part was not held this year. When the procession ended, Vladimir Putin and the leaders of the invited countries went to the Alexander Garden to lay flowers at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
