Worrisome, but possible // FOM and VTsIOM published the first ratings after the start of mobilization

    Published on

According to the data of the Public Opinion Foundation, following the results of the last week, anxiety in the mood of Russians began to dominate over calmness. The most significant event that attracted their attention, the respondents called partial mobilization. Nevertheless, their political preferences have not changed drastically so far. Approval of Vladimir Putin’s activities fell by 5 percentage points, and trust in him fell by 3 percentage points. Fluctuations in VTsIOM’s ratings are even smaller. Partial mobilization did not affect the electoral ratings of parties as of the end of last week.

On Friday, sociologists from the Public Opinion Foundation (FOM) and VCIOM published the first polls that were supposed to show whether partial mobilization had an effect. , announced by the president on September 21, on the socio-political moods of Russians. According to the poll FOM conducted from 23 to 25 September, this decision was the main event of the week. As such, according to the results of an open question, 47% of Russians consider him. In second place with a score of 27% is a special military operation. Referendums on the territory of Ukraine on joining Russia attracted much less attention: only 5% of respondents remembered them.

Sociologists also record significant changes in the moods of citizens.

However, the current events have not yet had a strong impact on the political ratings of the authorities.

Evaluations of government performance have changed less.

Electoral ratings of parties, in turn, are stable. VTsIOM is even less. It should be noted that the pollster carried out its measurements from September 19 to 25.

Victor Poturemsky, director of political analysis at INSOMAR, believes that the growth of anxiety and fear is a natural reaction to what is happening. “In general, there is a lot of anxiety and fear this year,” he notes. “And now it is primarily connected with the decision to mobilize. This is such an important milestone, which is now giving rise to turbulence in terms of social well-being.”

situations, the factor of consolidation of society around the authorities is triggered, he recalls. When the world is polarized, people think in terms of “we – they”, “if you are not for us, then for others”, and no one wants to be on the wrong side. Moreover, the expert notes, if earlier “they” were Ukraine, now this role is played by the entire so-called collective West. Everything suggests that the level of anxiety is even higher than when everyone was at home during the lockdown, the political scientist notes. However, what it will result in is not yet very clear. Most likely, the consolidation of anxiety will not be consensual, the expert believes, we see different survival strategies: someone goes abroad, someone goes to the military registration and enlistment office, and someone focuses on work.
