    Xi Jinping and other Chinese Communist Party and state leaders attended a ceremony Friday morning in Beijing’s Tian’anmen Square to present flower baskets to deceased national heroes.The event took place to mark Martyrs’ Day, one day before the National Day in China. Other leaders included Li Keqiang, Li Zhanshu, Wang Yang, Wang Huning, Zhao Leji, Han Zheng and Wang Qishan. (Xinhua/Yin Bogu)BEIJING, Sept. 30 (Xinhua) — Xi Jinping and other Chinese Communist Party and state leaders attended a ceremony on Friday morning in Beijing’s Tian’anmen Square to present flower baskets to deceased national heroes.The event was held to mark Martyrs’ Day, one day before the National Day in China.Other leaders included Li Keqiang, Li Zhanshu , Wang Yang, Wang Huning, Zhao Leji, Han Zheng and Wang Qishan. They were joined by representatives from all walks of life during the ceremony.At 10 a.m., all participants sang the national anthem and paid silent tribute to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the liberation of the Chinese people and the construction of the People’s Republic of China, founded in 1949. Nine huge baskets of flowers were placed in front of the Monument to the Heroes of the People. Xi and other leaders made their way to the base of the monument, where he straightened the ribbons on the baskets before leading other senior officials on a walk around the monument to pay their respects. The baskets, with ribbons reading “people’s heroes will forever live in our memory,” were presented on behalf of the CPC Central Committee; the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress; the state Council; the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference; the Central Military Commission; non-Communist parties, All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce, and non-party patriots; grassroots organizations and people from all walks of life; veterans, retired executives and relatives of martyrs; and Chinese young pioneers.Since the 18th CPC National Congress, under the strong leadership of the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its heart, the Party, armed forces and people of all ethnic groups have stepped forward in solidarity, realizing historic achievements and transformations of the cause of the Party and the State. Upholding the spirit of the martyrs and relying on its strength, China will surely write a more glorious on the new journey to make China a modern socialist country in all respects and progress towards the goal of the second centenary.
